New system

  • Ok, I'm at the very beginning. I decided I want to try set up a solar system.

Started by ordering a dual tracking system with the 6-195w panels. I'm sure I will need more. The tracking seemed like a good idea. (Hope I'm not wrong)

The basics on my house are relatively little usage (amps) but I do have a well pump that will require 240v. (Split phase)

I think around 30a will be enough but will expand if needed.

The panels that come with the tracker are 24v. I'm looking to set this up around 70-100 feet from the house. Best sun exposure at this location.

I will be adding batteries. Type and brand to be determined.

    Questions,
Will my run to the house be too long? (Voltage drop)

If I set up say 4 of these trackers, (6-195w panels each) will I even be close to getting where I want to be?

I will need a battery controller/inverter. Is there anything at eco worthy that will work for me?

I considered other panels (higher wattage) from other vendors but trying to match size/weight of the panels that will work with the tracker is challenging.

Anyone out there willing to help?

    thanks

  • You will need to us a volt meter at the pannels to see what you start at. and at the very next minute or so check at the house to see how much loss acured. If its too much loss you will need to increse your wire size. Remember power flows on the outside of the wire just under the insulation. So, if you lose too much voltage or your wire gets warm or even worse HOT to the touch your wire is too small.
