When I first built my home solar system, I purchased two EG4 100Ah server rack batteries. While they worked, I found that they struggled to keep up with my overnight power demands. That led me to start researching larger battery storage options, and one name kept coming up over and over again: Eco-Worthy.
I knew Eco-Worthy periodically runs some outstanding sales, so I waited for one of them. About a week later, they discounted their wall-mount batteries, and I purchased two PowerMega 51.2V 314Ah (16 kWh) wall-mount batteries.
Shipping took a little while, but when they arrived, I was impressed with how well they were packaged. Everything was extremely secure and protected. Since each battery weighs nearly 300 pounds and I'm now 63 years old, getting them into place wasn't exactly easy—but I got it done.
One of the first things I noticed was that Eco-Worthy has upgraded the battery connections. They now include 2/0 AWG battery cables with proper heavy-duty lugs instead of the quick-connect style used on some earlier models. That was a huge improvement in my opinion.
Another pleasant surprise was that both batteries came with a very sturdy combiner box that can be mounted directly to one of the batteries. That made for a much cleaner installation and was definitely a big plus.
For my installation, I also added additional 2/0 AWG battery cables, a heavy-duty DC disconnect switch, and a 200-amp Class-T fuse for added protection.
After removing my original batteries, I connected both PowerMega batteries through the combiner box and then to my inverter. I noticed they arrived at approximately 30% state of charge, which was perfectly acceptable.
Once everything was connected, I powered up the system. My inverter immediately recognized the battery BMS and began charging the batteries without any issues.
By the middle of the following day, both batteries had reached 100% state of charge. At that point, I knew everything had been wired correctly and that the BMS communication was working exactly as it should.
I then downloaded the Eco-Worthy app to my phone. The app allows me to monitor battery voltage, current, state of charge, temperatures, cell information, and many other parameters from virtually anywhere through my Wi-Fi connection. It has worked flawlessly.
These batteries have exceeded my expectations. Since installing them, they have easily supplied all of my overnight power needs with capacity to spare. They have completely transformed the performance of my solar energy system.
In my opinion, Eco-Worthy has officially moved beyond being considered a "budget brand." Their current products feature Grade A prismatic LiFePO₄ cells, active cell balancing, Wi-Fi monitoring, and communication with many modern inverters.
I was also pleased to learn that these batteries are backed by recognized safety testing. Eco-Worthy markets them as part of a UL 9540-certified Energy Storage System (ESS), and the company states that its energy storage products have successfully passed UL 1973 and UL 9540A safety testing. That gave me additional confidence in the quality and safety of my investment.
